Himalayan Breathwork
& Kriya

About

Erin is a certified Himalayan Breathwork and Kriya facilitator, having trained under the guidance of Master Teachers from The Sattva Life, which is affiliated with Sattva Yoga Academy, Rishikesh, India.

Himalayan Breathwork and Kriya is a part of Sattva Yoga, derived from ancient kundalini and tantric traditions of the Himalayas.

‘Sattva’ is a Sanskrit word that denotes the quality of inner balance, harmony, clarity, creativity and lightness of being.

‘Kriya’ is a Sanskrit word meaning ‘action that leads us to evolution, expansion, and liberation’ and is referred to as the ‘yoga of energy’.

Benefits

This embodied practice combines a diverse range of breathing techniques, specific visualisation, focused awareness, body movements, mantras and mudras that can support in:

  • Calming the mind and body

  • Awakening/enlivening vital energy

  • Releasing stress and emotion from the body and nervous system

  • Expanding consciousness and tapping into our creative potential

  • Experiencing states of unity and deep connection with Self

  • Building self-awareness of thinking, feeling, somatic and relational experiences, as they arise

  • Enhancing states of clarity and self-compassion

  • Optimising respiratory efficiency

This integrated system can support in tapping our potential to continually grow, heal, expand and evolve in our life.

Himalayan Breathwork and Kriya can be incorporated into a daily practice, meeting each individual where they are on their personal journey.

It offers a way of Being. An intentional, conscious way of living.

“When we choose to live with intention, we shift from simply reacting, to consciously creating a life that aligns with what truly matters to us.”

Himalayan Breathwork & Kriya for Mental Health

Erin is interested in exploring the application of somatic practices (including targeted breathwork, mantra, physical movement, intention and focused awareness) and their intersection with the treatment of mental health presentations.

Research has highlighted the positive benefits of breathwork, meditation, mantra, and somatic practices on improving anxiety, depression, thinking-patterns, cognitive functions and nervous system regulation.

These practices may foster mental health by building the ability to: up-regulate and down-regulate energy and emotions; reduce stress markers in the body; improve physical health; improve focus and attention; to become more aware of patterns of thinking, relating and being and to self-correct as desired.

FAQs

    • Himalayan Breathwork involves deep breathwork and may at times involve breath holds.

    • Possible contra-indications for Himalayan Breathwork & Kriya requiring an adjusted practice:

Anxiety, recent history of panic attacks, pregnancy, hernia, glaucoma, high blood pressure, recent trauma, epilepsy/seizures.

    • Mental health conditions
Individuals experiencing active psychotic symptoms or suicidal thoughts may find some aspects of Himalayan Breathwork and Kriya challenging.

In these cases, a discussion with Erin may clarify whether an individually tailored session would be appropriate and supportive.

    • If any of these contra-indications/pre-existing conditions apply to you, it is important that you notify Erin prior to a session so your participation in the event can be adjusted accordingly.

    • It is important to listen to your own limitations. If at any time you are feeling unsafe, it is important that you stop participating and seek support as needed.

    • If you have any medical/health concerns, it is important that you consult with a suitably qualified medical professional before engaging in these activities.

  • Medicare and private health rebates are not currently available for specific Himalayan Breathwork and Kriya services.

Depending on the nature of an individual’s support plan, it may be possible to provide Himalayan Breathwork and Kriya services to clients under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) if they are ‘self-managed’ or ‘plan-managed’. This means that full fees are paid by the client or plan-manager and then receipts submitted by the client or plan manager themselves to NDIS for reimbursement. These services may contribute to meeting a support goal as part of a general category, such as ‘Other’, ‘Community Access’ or ‘Improved Daily Living’. Examples of more specific goals may be stress reduction, emotional awareness and regulation, or improved sleep.

Unfortunately, Erin is not able to see clients under the NDIS who are NDIA-managed.
